What is a Grab Lorry?
The grab lorry is at the heart of our grab hire operations. Here at Metro Waste, we operate a fleet of eight-wheeled trucks with approximate 16-tonne load capacities. Each lorry has a hydraulic grab arm fitted with a bucket attached that “grabs” waste material and loads it onto the bed. The arm has a reach of approximately 6m and this means our trained operators can collect waste in London even when the client has stored it behind fences or hoardings.
Even in tight areas, grab lorries have surprising manoeuvrability.
Hire skips and there will be a delay while you wait for units to arrive. Once you have skips onsite, you still need to consider loading them and, for our busier commercial clients, losing manpower to fill the units isn’t always an option.
And, if you underestimate waste volumes, you will need to wait for more skips to arrive and for the ones you have already filled to be collected.

Grab Hire | No Permit Required
Some sites in Battersea, Balham, Brixton, Clapham, Fulham, Putney, Stockwell, Tooting, Vauxhall, Wimbledon and London, especially those of a smaller size, won’t always have enough space for us to drop off skips unless we position them at the roadside. To do this, you would need to apply for a permit from the borough’s local authority and in a busy location like London, this can take at least 5 working days to be processed which won’t always be convenient.
Factor in that work in Central London often takes place in narrow side streets and it might not be possible to leave a skip on the roadside anyway.
