Now summer is in full swing, most London streets are awash with the sound of hammers, power drills and electric saws. It’s at this time of year that you’ll see vast numbers of skips plotted by the side of the road and numerous front gardens with skips on the driveway.
The obvious reason is that the majority of people are taking advantage of the warmer days and longer evenings to undertake those DIY jobs that typically get sidelined during the less hospitable winter days. They’re also hiring building firms to do the jobs that they’re not able to do themselves.
Busy Builders
Aside from personal DIY projects, it’s normally the busiest time for building companies too. Most of us prefer to have any building work done during the summer if we can and many building/small construction companies often have their books full with loft extensions, new patios and garden fences, conservatories, driveways upgrades, new kitchens/bathrooms and, of course, new home extensions.
Obviously, who wants muddy builders’ boots ruining their carpets and a frosty wind whistling through a front door that needs to be left open all day so that the workmen can keep throwing rubbish in the skip that they’ve hired? During the summer this isn’t so much of a problem, but in winter it’s a very unpleasant experience.
Home DIYers
Similarly, if we’re going to put up that fence ourselves or hire a cement mixer to lay a new patio, we want to get it done when it’s warm. If we’ve decided to fit a new kitchen or bathroom or demolish that old shed, we want to do it when the weather is good.
Skip Hire or Waste Clearance?
Depending on the circumstances of the building work that’s being done, one of the above options is usually better suited to the job at hand. The type of rubbish and waste that’s being generated by the project is usually an important factor together with the convenience that each service provides.
For example, if your garden is being landscaped and the landscapers have to clear away large amounts of soil, clay or old concrete, then hiring a skip is perhaps the better choice. The skip can be filled up slowly with heavy waste and then taken away and/or replaced with a new empty skip at the same time.
Conversely, if you’ve decided that it’s time to have a good old fashioned clearout or you’re refurbishing your home, you’ll no doubt have a mixture of large bulky items like sofas, wardrobes, other home furnishings, electrical goods, and general bric-a-brac. If you’ve really gone to town and cleared the loft, garage, shed and house at the same time, you’ll probably have an awful lot of bulky rubbish that needs to be removed. With this scenario, calling in the help of a rubbish removal company may well be the most suitable option. What’s more, with this option, they can also do the back-breaking work for you and many firms will only charge you for the amount of rubbish that they collect. If you need more than one load, they’ll simply return to get the rest of it – Job done!
Get Professional Advice
We’ve seen all of the above situations and all other variations many times over; after all, removing London’s rubbish is what we’ve been doing for over a quarter of a century now so there’s not much that can surprise us. As such, we’re experts at being able to gauge what type of service is best for our clients.
There are also several other factors to be considered that we haven’t mentioned above. For example, do you have a driveway? Will you need a skip permit? Do you live in a flat or a house? Do you live on one of London’s Red Routes? Will the work be done quickly or over a period of weeks?
All of the above (and more) are important factors when determining what kind of service will suit your needs (and budget) best.
